Miikka Kiprusoff made a 10 million dollar deal with Calgary Flames.

Miikka Kiprusoff who became the hottest goalie in 2003-2004 season of NHL will continue his career with the Calgary Flames. "Miki" has accepted the Flames deal that will bring him 10 million dollars during the next three years.

- I'm really satisfied with the package and I can't even blame about the paycheck, Miki confirmed to Iltalehti (newspaper).

Kiprusoff, 28, could have accepted Flames qualifying offer about the next season. Then "Kipper" would have become unrestricted free agent next summer and he would have been able to choose freely in which team he would like to continue his NHL-career. Had he done so, he could have been able to get even more money from some other team, but it would have been more riskier.

It seems likely that Flames would have sold Kipper during the season and you can't overestimate the risk of getting injured.

- I was thinking about the one year deal, but this was a better deal. I didn't want to be sold to some other team. Now I can live peacefully in Calgary and concentrate on playing, Miki said.

KIPRUSOFF became the Flames hero last season on their way to Stanley Cup finals. In Calgary he was - and still is - a megastar along with Jarome Iginla.

Flames has a decent team this season and it is one of the reasons why Miki wanted to stay in Calgary.

- I have only good memories of Calgary and the team is once again becoming a good team. Iginla's stay with Flames affected my decision about the deal, Miki told to Iltalehti (newspaper).

At 3.5m Hamrlik has 17 more games, 1 fewer goal, 15 fewer pts, 231 more penalty minutes (softer?!) 723 more minutes career wise and 30 seconds more per game average than Niedermeyer. Yet costs 3.25 million only. Thats over half the price of Scott less and people were clamouring for him on here.
The only word for this move by Sutter if true is....genious!!!

Oh and just for fun 95 more games, 2 more goals, only 41 fewer pts, 35 fewer penalty minutes, , 983 more minutes career, and about 2 minutes more in ice time average only, than Donger, sorry Pronger. He's 2 and 3/4 million dollars cheaper than him too.

А лично от себя добавлю что я всегда секретно завидовал Ойлу когда Хамрлик играл у них и всегда думал что это единственный игрок у них которого я бы хотел видеть во Флеймз, но потом его продали в НЙ и он как то пропал из моего радара.

Гамрлик очень хороший защитник. Хотя и у нас, и в Тампе он был поярче и поинтереснее.

I like Hamrlik and wish him well no matter what but for the last three seasons there has been some significant decline in Hamrlik's game that goes well beyond numbers, for any team to pay him 3.5m is a mistake, IMO.

The hitting game has been almost non-existant, he is not physical in front of his own net and does not display much emotion in his game much anymore. He stopped dropping his gloves and no longer throws the big hits he used to throw with much more frequency and rarely plays with an edge to his game. Some shoulder problems have given him problems along with his knees which is why he's much slower now and cannot get his shot off from the point on the pp. To his credit he has played hurt a lot and came back within days after he was supposed to be out for weeks with a seperated shoulder.

Hamrlik's skill's offensively are charging in from the point to take one-times from the high slot for his goals. From the point he is very slow in getting off his shot now.

He did not score his first goal until mid-Feb in 03-04. Sometimes changing teams is the answer for a player but in this case I think the decline in his game goes beyond the team he played for and that defense was very good on paper.
